Hello everyone! It has been a great semester in Writing With Technologies. To sum up the blog-writing process that I went through, I wrote a Storify that you can find here! Feel free to read and enjoy! I hope you feel inspired to follow through with your goals, and even write a blog about it!

I have not been up to date with my fitness journey, but I can confidently say that I have gotten into a healthy eating and exercise routine, with special thanks to my friend Kelly! She and I coordinated days that we would both go to the gym together, so that I would not feel lonely, while also having motivation at the gym to keep me going. So far, our gym schedule is as follows: Monday- Gym at 8:00 Tuesday- off Wednesday- Gym at 8:00 Thursday- Gym at 5:00 Friday- off Saturday- Gym at 3:30 Sunday- Gym at 7:00 This schedule was comprised from class schedules, work, and daily routines. Since I was focused on toning, Kelly and I stuck to the same gym schedule to show the best results. First, we would go on the ellipticals for about 15 minutes. (Note: as the weeks progressed, I eventually stayed on the elliptical for 25-30 minutes) Then, we would go over to the mats. To start, we would do a minute plank. Now, a minute plank does not seem THAT hard, but incase you haven't seen my arms, they are almost identical to linguini noodles. 0% arm strength. This is me trying to lift anything heavier than three pounds: So...you get the picture. Arm strength is definitely an area of concern. Kelly would start the timer at one minute, and her and I would start to plank on our elbows. After 30 seconds passed, we would move up to our hands to finish the plank. Once I got more comfortable with planking, I would hold my plank until 45 seconds, then switch from my elbows to my hands continuously for the last 15 seconds. After planks were done, Kelly would have us do abs. Usually, we would start with our usual ab routine, which can be found here. Kelly's professor actually showed her class this video, so Kelly wanted to try it out on me. At first, it was hard. But, as I progressed and get used to the routine, it became easier to get through. After that, Kelly and I would work with the medicine ball. I would start by laying on the ground with my knees up but feet on the ground, and Kelly would stand at my feet. Kelly would have the medicine ball in her hand, and she would throw it to me as I crunched up, and then I would throw it back once I sat fully up. This repeated until we did 10 reps, then we would switch. I did this three times around, giving me a total of 30 reps. This was my favorite workout because it really engaged my core, as well as worked my arms. The next part of my fitness journey is eating healthy. This is the aspect that I am most proud of myself for accomplishing, especially during finals and all of the work I had to do leading up to it. I am your common stress eater, and I will eat anything the second I start to feel stressed. In preparation for the madness of finals and the foreshadowing stress eating, I bought plenty of fruits and veggies for me to much on while doing work, so that I do not feel motivated to eat junk. Overall, eating healthy after a diet like mine (chinese food, pizza, pasta..you get the idea) was a huge adjustment. Once I got into the routines of looking up healthy recipes and trying them out, I became addicted. I looked forward to going to the grocery store and seeing what fruits and vegetables were on sale, and what I can use them with my next meal idea. Eating healthy has made me more energetic, helped me concentrate more, and made me overall happier. Now that I am in the routine of eating healthy, I know that my willpower to eat junk will not be easily persuaded. My favorite page that I followed, and where I got a lot of my recipe ideas, is Goodful. This page shows you how to eat healthy while not spending hours to prepare and not breaking the bank. This page also had a bunch of creative ideas that I plan on doing over the summer! Overall, this journey has been truly life-changing. I have seen such improvement in my eating habits, as well as my workout ethic. The routine that I am in has been drilled into my head over the past month or so, and I do not expect it to be broken anytime soon. I cannot thank my roommate Kelly enough for helping me through this process, and showing me the correct ways to work out to tone my body. I am excited to continue my journey throughout the summer and keep working to improve my overall health!
This blog is dedicated to my journey to getting fit. Eating healthy is one component, but the most important way to stay fit is by working out along with eating healthy. Working out by myself can sometimes cause me to be lazy. I'll be on the elliptical for about 7 minutes, start to break a sweat, and consider that a 'good workout.' I'm my own worst enemy. Having someone there to motivate me to keep going and keep me on track of my workout is what I need to stick with my fitness goal. Luckily, my roommate and best friend Kelly lives for this stuff. Her major is Dance, along with a dual major in Health Promotion Wellness Management. When it comes to learning about the different parts of the body, which muscle does what, and how to stay fit, Kelly knows it all. Now, I do love Kelly, but she can be a little over the top (in a good way!) As soon as I told her that I wanted to include her as a part of my fitness journey, she immediately asked me what areas she wanted to work on, what she was going to do, how many times a week we want to go for, for how long, etc. Although she is overwhelming, this is exactly what I need to stay on track and keep up with my goals. Right now, after much consideration, Kelly has decided to work on focusing more on cardio and toning. Here is a video of where Kelly gets her fitness inspiration, and what I can look forward to. Since I am not looking to lose weight, but just to look and feel healthier, she has come up with a workout plan that does just that. My gym days will be Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and maybe Sundays. Since this is 4 times more than I go right now, I am going to need a LOT of motivation and encouragement to get me to go. I am very excited to start this journey, along with eating healthy. I cannot wait to see my hard work pay off! Wish me luck!
College is hard. You come home from classes all day, have 27+ hours of homework to do for tomorrow's 8 am, and the last thing you want to do is make dinner. And if you ARE making dinner, it's something quick and microwavable, also probably full of calories and trans fat. This is my life this semester. From juggling 6 classes, two field experiences, a job, and dance team practice twice a week, I find myself struggling to eat healthy and be conscious of my eating. Despite time being an issue, money is also a huge issue for me. Even though I have a job, there are many other expenses that I have to pay for (getting my nails done, buying makeup - the necessities, of course). In all seriousness, I do find it hard to pay for everything, and buy healthy produce and groceries. I mean, healthy food is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. A carton of strawberries is like $14. Really?? Where are these strawberries being grown?! I know the correct answer is California, but they better be watered with GOLD for how much they are being charged for! In planning my niche blog, I have been doing research of blogs that are similar to mine. Through my research, I learned that it can actually be pretty easy to start eating healthy, especially on a budget. Blogs such as Balanced Bites, Food Insight, and Eating Bender all contain recipes and ways to eat healthy without making a huge dent on your bank account. Feeling inspired, I did a little research on my own, as to where I can get healthy food for cheap. It turns out that Aldi, right near campus, is actually going all organic for cheap. Perfect timing! Here is the Facebook page for Aldi, which has information all about Aldi's mission statement, information on prices, and even has recipes that people can use WITH items found at Aldi. My favorite part of this Facebook page is that it shares the Tasty videos that paired with Aldi to show ingredients that the people of Tasty used directly from the Aldi store.
